Dina Demetrius is a trusted, visionary, and collaborative television journalist and newsroom leader. As an award-winning journalist, she is driven to bridge the distance between the seen and unseen in policy issues, talking to insiders and outsiders, digging to the root of an issue. She expertly opens the space for people to tell their stories with vulnerability, helping them become empowered and expanding transformative connections for both them and a wider audience.
In her roles as anchor/host, correspondent, and investigative journalist, Dina crafts stories that illuminate the humanity at the heart of any policy issue. She serves as a freelance national correspondent for CBS Newspath. Her regular award-winning reporting could be seen on the syndicated weekly news magazine show "Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien." Additionally, she has anchored the weekly public affairs show "In Focus CA" for Spectrum News 1, where she also hosted, supervised, and wrote their hour-long special on the Future of L.A. Dina garnered an L.A.-area Emmy Award for leading and supervising Spectrum News 1's 90-minute live town hall on gun violence, "L.A. Under the Gun." Dina's award-winning news magazine stories and episodes have appeared on KCET, Al Jazeera America, and "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" for A&E Network.
Dina successfully initiates and leads award-winning investigations, including the causes and consequences of rampant medical debt, the treatment of mentally ill inmates, and a groundbreaking investigation into the lack of fracking regulations in California. This highly recognized story prompted swift changes within California's oil and gas regulatory agency.
Dina began her national reporting career at ABC News as a field and story producer. From the San Bernardino terrorist attack to environmental disasters throughout California, to national policy news, Dina has thoroughly and rapidly responded to breaking news for a variety of news organizations. She has also reported on political campaigns, special events, and culture/entertainment stories. Dina enterprises and develops stories that are broadcast nationally and internationally. One of her favorites was leading an Al Jazeera America team to Athens, Greece, to cover the Greek financial crisis in 2015. Through her contacts and intimate knowledge of the Greek language and culture, she was able to develop exclusive under-reported stories for the network. Her written work has been published in Aljazeera.com, The Detroit Free Press, Psychology Today, and ABCNews.com.
In 2011, Dina traveled to Nicaragua to direct and produce a non-profit-sponsored feature documentary, filming the stories of an orphanage, aid workers, and the people they assist in Nicaragua's toxic and dangerous garbage dumps.
Dina Demetrius is an award-winning journalist who has garnered five L.A. area Emmy Awards, six L.A. Press Club Awards, including one for her groundbreaking California fracking investigation, four RTNA Golden Mike Awards, four national Telly Awards, and numerous other L.A.
